Aunt Emily

Emily Bowyer Hammel was my father's older sister. She was the dearest person I've ever known. Over several adolescent summers, she patiently taught me how to sew and how to cook. I loved her. Sadly, she has been gone these few years and I miss her very much. However, I am carrying on her legacy of sewing and trying to carry on her legacy of caring.

Happy Summer!! Coming Up for Air

Hello Friends:

Sorry I've been away so long - I know I've said that before! But with the new job, things have been hectic. As a matter of fact, I couldn't really even get into my sewing room if I needed to do so.

But with the long weekend, I'm hoping to get some time to sort things out so I can get in. I already moved three large containers full of fabric to the basement for "long term storage". I think I could outfit almost everyone in my neighborhood for a year.

I also think I need a different set up in the sewing room - the three folding tables are great work surfaces, but in the tiny room they take up too much space. So going to investigate one of those fold down cutting tables, so I can put it up only when needed. I saw at IKEA a nice workstation with a table attached to a larger set of shelves. That might be my solution for one wall.

And I'm itching to get back to sewing. Almost not worth making summer clothing now, but too warm to sew wool for winter. I'm sure I can find enough in my super-sized stash to keep me busy.

On the vintage pattern front, I found two stunners from the early 60's. The first is the standard Jackie K (before she was O) princess line dress with matching jacket. The second is a full skirted and neck bow with shaped jacket outfit. Neither my size, but good enough to be able to size fairly easily. Now I just need some time!

So that is the latest and the greatest from me. I can only cross my fingers and hope that I will have time this weekend.

Hi Sally, I don't know about the US but australia seems to have had a surfeit of long weekends just recently and I think theres a nother one coming up soon. I've run out of things to sort out.
But I'll probably find something to do.
